I’m not perfect. But I am intentional.
That’s the difference.
When people ask how I support Black-owned businesses, I don’t respond with a moral checklist.
I share my flow.
—
STEP 1: Start with Know Black
I check the Marketplace Magic tile first. I know the marketplaces now—I know who’s strong on skincare, who carries eco-friendly home products, and who rotates seasonal gifts. It took time, but it became second nature.
—
STEP 2: Move to Carts for the Culture
If I can’t find what I need in the independent marketplace spaces, I check the retail links on Carts for the Culture. That means shopping a major store like Nordstrom—but going straight to their Black-founded section. It may not be perfect, but it’s purposeful.
—
STEP 3: If All Else Fails, I Branch Out
If I still don’t find what I need, I move on—with peace.
Because I know I started from a place of intention.
My default wasn’t convenience—it was culture.
And that’s the habit I’m building, one choice at a time.
